Maidstone Radio Goes Live!

Maidstone Radio is now up and running after launching on Saturday.

Maidstone Borough Council is supporting the new community service which has a purpose-built radio studio based at the Maidstone Community Support Centre in Marsham Street, which was packed with supporters on Saturday at the 2pm launch when the first ever show was broadcast.

The Radio Station will now be on-air 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and will broadcast programmes including interviews, features and a good mix of music. People can listen on Alexa devices by enabling the ‘Maidstone Radio’ skill and asking Alexa to ‘Play Maidstone Radio’. Maidstone Radio also broadcasts on the ‘Tune In’ app for Android and Apple phones, and finally you can listen live by visiting www.wearemaidstone.com and clicking on ‘Listen’.

The project was set up to bring local radio back to Maidstone and represent the community while giving local people the opportunity to be a part of the team.

Maidstone Radio station co-founder Stuart Baker said:

“We will be focusing on the people, businesses, charities and groups from across the borough. And we’re keen for people from all walks of life to get involved.”

Julie Maddocks, Communications Manager at Maidstone Borough Council added:

“Maidstone Borough Council is delighted to be supporting this exciting new venture based in the county town. Radio is a fantastic medium to promote the work of so many organisations based here in the borough, and will be providing interviews, information and along with promotional material and voice overs to help where we can.”

Maidstone Radio is a voluntary organisation, which relies entirely on donations, advertising and sponsorship to sustain the service and is always looking for volunteers to get involved or support from Maidstone’s business community.

The project team aim to apply for an FM and DAB licence in the future.
