With thanks at Christmas…

This Christmas spare a thought for those who make our community better.

There are over 40 voluntary litter pick groups that help keep the Maidstone borough clean and tidy, including huge borough wide events such as the Autumn clean-up where 34 sacks of litter were collected and the Great Big Spring Clean taking place next year.

For these groups, who do a fabulous job, Maidstone Borough Council organised a ‘thank you’ lunch on 1st December.

James Gibson, Environmental Improvement Manager of MBC, said “The annual volunteer litter picker lunch is a small gesture from Maidstone Borough Council to show our appreciation for the hard work carried out by the various groups.”

“It’s a thankless task that requires a lot of dedication and tenacity and we are very grateful to anyone who gives up their precious free time to help keep the Borough looking clean and tidy.”

Although the waste team organised the event as a sign of appreciation for the volunteers, they were not the only ones who wanted to pass on their thanks.

David Naghi, Deputy Mayor of Maidstone, also came to pass on his thanks. Speaking at the event, he said “It is an honour to be here at this event, because without these volunteers the borough of Maidstone would suffer from the amount of litter. I am very happy that MBC recognise the work [the litter pickers] do with this event.”
